Engine start, the moment of truth!
First start.
This is a 3L 8 cylinder engine completely refurbished in the workshop: rebuilt crankshaft bearings, new blocks, camshaft as well as new valves and guides, new oil pump and water pump.
For its first laps, the engine was equipped with a temporary cover of the cam box that allows to control and adjust the efficiency of the lubrication.
The engine is still unstable because he’s not tuned at this stage of testing!
First tests
The first start of a completely rebuilt motor is always a highlight in the life of the workshop. The engine bench is particularly valuable for these first tests: It greatly facilitates the careful listening of the noise of gears and gears, the development of the ignition, the adjustment of the carburation, the verification of the oil pressure , the oil level in the cam box, the observation of the different temperature sensors (intake, exhaust, water temperature), checking the tightness of the blocks, the balance of the compressions in the cylinders. It also helps to ensure the proper operation of accessories, water pump, oil pump, starter, dynamo ….
All these checks and adjustments are very important for the futur performance of the engine.
